Two new Zenith Pilot Type 20: Tribute to Louis Blériot and Skeleton
by Guillaume V - 30/07/2015
Zenith unveiled two new timepieces: the Pilot Type 20 Tribute to Louis Bleriot (04.2421.5011/17.C714) and the Pilot Type 20 Skeleton (04.2422.5011/78.C714). Impressive case, large dial, arabic numerals, big fluted crown, pocket watch caliber: every detail is drawn from historical pilot watches!
The Pilot Type 20 Tribute to Louis Bleriot has a 60mm sapphire crystal case with white gold bezel, lugs and crown, and a particularly nice meteorite dial. The sapphire case-back is quite nice, too, featuring an engraving representing the first fligth of Louis Blériot above the English Chanel on 25 july 1909. Rumour has it that Louis Blériot wore a Zenith watch during his journey...
The Pilot Type 20 Skeleton also has a 60mm sapphire crystal case with white gold bezel, lugs and crow. Lugs are engraved and so is the bezel which is also coated with blue enamel. The dial is made of sapphire crystal which beautifully reveals the movement.
Both these timepieces are motorized by the famous 5011K caliber, with hour, minute, small second and power reserve indicator functions. It is important to recall that this caliber won in 1967 a competition for the most accurate chronometer movement.
In the Pilot Type 20 Skeleton, the 5011K caliber is entirely skeletonized - which takes around 200 hours for each movement.
These two timepieces, mounted on alligator leather stap and white gold pin buckle, are avalaible as a limited edition (5 pieces each). Their price tag is 200,000 CHF.
