A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Minutes repeater (SIHH 2015)
by Guillaume V - 20/01/2015
For the first time, the brand presents a watch which strikes - on demand - the hours, the tens of minutes and the minutes. Therefore, in accordance with its digital display, the left hammer strikes the hours. The 2 hammers combined strike the tens of minutes and the right hammer strikes the minutes. It is worth noting that indicating tens of minutes instead of quarters - as is often the case with minutes repeaters - makes it easier to identify the ring.
Instead of using a slide to trigger the ring, the A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater uses a push button mechanism located at 10 o’clock.
A true feast for the eyes and for the ears, the video of this watch is available below.
As the ring lasts at least 12 seconds - and up to 20 seconds - when it is triggered less than 12 seconds before a minute jump, the latter triggers only when the ring is complete. But that’s not all! The ring triggers again automatically to indicate the new hour !
Another remarkable point: the size of the case hasn’t increased with the addition of a minutes repeater. The 44.2 mm diameter case of the Zeitwerk Striking Time is 13.1 mm thick, whereas the case of the minutes repeater Zeitwerk has an identical diameter and is 14.1 mm thick.
The A. Lange & Söhne Minutes Repeater is not a limited edition but the number of items manufactured will be very low. Only available in platinum, its price should be around 440,000 euros.
